Hello
My name is Graeme van Brummelen and I am the founder of On the Rise Fly Fishing. On the Rise began in mid 2025 as a program to help men through the dark days of depression and anxiety as well as other health and well being issues. Initially the concept of fly fishing for health came about because of a number of suicides in the Upper Murray Region of North East Victoria and the South West Slopes of NSW and the desire to prevent further suicides. I also discovered a number of scenarios where veterans and others suffering PTSD or similar health issues had found relief and peace when fly fishing. … scroll down (or is it up?)
What we do
No matter if you’re a returning soldier dealing with PTSD, a business person or someone battling anxiety, or a teenager navigating life’s challenges, we’re here to support those affected by the cruelty of mental health conditions, loneliness, physical limitations or life’s questions about holistic health. We’re here to help you.
The support we offer is to teach fly fishing. Fly fishing is a recognised therapy for people suffering from emotional problems. To achieve this, we provide courses for groups of up to 6 participants or individual tuition on a one on one basis.
We’re nestled in the Upper Murray region, which spans the Victorian and New South Wales border region. We’re happy to provide accommodation and, if you need it, cover transport costs thanks to our wonderful supporters. We’ll take care of all your tuition, fishing licence fees, tackle and meals. The first course is just a day, but we also offer longer courses that can last up to four days.
Our courses offer respite and valuable life skills to help participants beyond fishing. We also build a self-support network and encourage them to join regional and national fishing outings organized by our partners.
